BRUNCH BUREAU, now a chain of three, launched two things on Aug. 12: their newest location in S Maison in the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) complex, and their new Filipino dishes, designed to wake someone up at brunch.

BusinessWorld went to a tasting earlier this week, which featured the Filipino Paboritos (favorites) menu: Corned Beef Brisket Sinigang (entree platter or solo for P590 and Big Plates good for two to three, P1,150), Crispy Pork Sisig (P490/P960), Golden Squash Kare-Kare (P720/P1,400), Beef Tapa Bowl (P590/P1,350), and Haciendero Chicken (P420/P850).

While we did like the Corned Beef Brisket Sinigang (a sour soup, modified with large chunks of salted, very red beef), we’re afraid to say that someone else has done it before, and better. The Beef Tapa bowl, however, brings back the preserved beef dish into its juicier, saucier form; the Haciendero Chicken (Negros-inspired inasal — grilled chicken — but with red pepper aioli, pico de gallo, and lemon parsley rice) was a sure win — we haven’t had anything quite like this before, despite the addition of several familiar elements. We have unreserved praise for the kare-kare (peanut-based stew, but this sauce is creamier because of the hidden addition of creamed squash; we also like its use of vegetables like bok choi and French beans) as well as the Crispy Sisig: perfectly browned.

(SPOT.ph) SM Mall of Asia isn’t short on food options, but to have late breakfast, early lunch, or just an excuse to sip a midday cocktail in one place? Brunch Bureau is your place to be.

The café has just opened its latest—and biggest—branch on the second level of S Maison, serving its signature sweet-meets-savory plates with the same laid-back energy in Pasay. It might not seem like it at first glance, but this branch stretches deep into the mall’s interior, revealing more seating as you walk in, making it the most spacious yet.

If its branches in Legazpi Village, Makati and Molito, Alabang are a bit out of your way, this new outpost is the perfect middle ground. Why don’t we take a look inside?

In an interview with Manila Bulletin Lifestyle, chef RJ Ungco said the branch champions Filipino flavors and offers platter selections for families and groups to enjoy.

Some of his recommendations include Corned Beef Brisket Sinigang, Brunch Bureau Benedict, and Crispy Pork Sisig.

Apart from food, guests can also look forward to events like Trivia Nights, DJ Brunch Session, and unlimited mimosas.

From hot espresso to Beef Tapa Bowls and unlimited mimosas, a new brunch spot in Pasay City is serving up comfort food favorites with a modern twist.

Brunch Bureau is one of those hidden gems with bang-for-your-buck meals—filling, tasty, and affordable is a combination you cannot argue with. Case in point: the Cheesy Korean Chicken Chop (P490) is their Korean-style chicken dish featuring a crunchy soy-glazed chicken thigh fillet resting on top of Spam and topped with cheese and gochujang—think of it like chicken parmigiana meets Korean cheese buldak, on steroids. And because all that savory goodness needs a little balance, it comes with a side of tangy, spicy kimchi fried rice.

The participating Brunch Bureau branch is at 109 Don Carlos Palanca, Legazpi Village, Makati.

Just from their name, you know Brunch Bureau takes brunch seriously. For one, all their locations have the minimalist straight-out-of-Pinterest look of the ideal brunch-with-the-girls spot, with cushioned wooden chairs, pastel green and orange accents, and lots of greenery and natural light. They have a section on their menu for All-Day Brunch, but anything you order works. If you’re really craving classic brunch fare though, go for the Brunch Bureau Benedict (P495) served with fried tocino and a torched dalandan hollandaise over butter toasted banana bread—yes, you read that right. Trust us, the sweet-savory combination just works. The Brunch Burger can get messy with a sunny-side egg and whipped kesong puti sandwiched with a juicy beef patty but it’s worth it.

While Brunch Bureau offers your classic espresso-based drinks, they also have a Lattes Around the World selection worth checking out—go for the Saigon (P230/hot, P240/cold), their version of a Vietnamese coffee or the Nippon (P220/hot, P230/cold), an Okinawa-inspired cappuccino sweetened with unrefined brown sugar cane. Boozy brunch can happen here, too, with their line of Brunch Cocktails—go classic-with-a-twist with their Yuzu Ichigo Mimosa (P400).
